Cagayan De Oros Thrilling White Water Rafting

I was feeling adventurous last weekend and decided to take a trip to Northern Mindanao for some white water rafting thrills. And boy did I get what I came for!

The rafting experience in Cagayan de Oro was simply exhilarating. The rapids were challenging but not too difficult for a beginner like me. The beautiful scenery along the river made the whole ride even more enjoyable.

Demographics and Culture

But it's not just about the rafting in Northern Mindanao. The region is home to a rich and diverse culture with various ethnic groups that have their own unique traditions and customs.

The most prominent ethnic group in the region is the Bukidnon. They are known for their rich history of agriculture and their unique art and music. I was lucky enough to witness a traditional dance performance by the Bukidnon during my visit and it was truly mesmerizing.

Other ethnic groups in the region include the Maranao, Higaonon, and Talaandig. They are equally fascinating and I highly recommend learning about their cultures.

Tourist Destinations

Northern Mindanao is a tourist hotspot with a wide range of destinations to choose from. If you're looking for some outdoor adventures, the region is brimming with natural wonders like the Maria Cristina Falls and Mount Kitanglad.

For those interested in history and architecture, there are several sites worth visiting such as the St. Augustine Cathedral and the Spanish Fort San Pedro.

And if you're a beach bum like me, there are plenty of pristine beaches in the region like the stunning beaches of Camiguin Island.

Shopping and Culinary

No trip is complete without savoring the local cuisine and doing a bit of shopping. The region is famous for their fresh seafood, especially the Sinuglaw (a delicious mix of grilled pork belly and kinilaw, a traditional raw fish salad).

Make sure to try the lechon too, it's a staple in Filipino celebrations but it's extra special in Northern Mindanao where they serve it with a side of the region's famous Siling Labuyo (spicy chili peppers).

For shopping, head to the Cogon Market in Cagayan De Oro where you'll find an abundance of souvenirs, handicrafts, and textiles. Just make sure to haggle for the best price.

Tips

If you're planning a trip to Northern Mindanao, make sure to pack light and wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The weather can be hot and humid, so it's best to dress accordingly.

Bring lots of water and sunscreen as well. And if you're going rafting, don't forget to wear a life vest and listen closely to the guide's instructions to ensure your safety.

Lastly, don't be afraid to immerse yourself in the local culture and interact with the friendly locals. They're always eager to share their stories and traditions with visitors.

So what are you waiting for? Northern Mindanao is waiting for you to explore its beauty and adventure. Just don't forget to take lots of photos and make unforgettable memories along the way.
